How to eat and still lose weight IN KOREA.

People usually gain weight during their trips to Korea because of all the tempting food but I somehow managed to return to the states 8 pounds lighter!

I think it was a combination of spacing out all the delicious, aromatic food within 5 months, my daily intake of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients (all very important!), completely abandoning processed foods (easy to do because of all the media unwrapping truths about junk food in Korea), and an insignificant amount of cardio (I wish it were a bit more significant though).

I'm happy to say that I've become a more health conscious person - but for the record, I definitely did not skimp out on all the galbi, ddukbokkee, and boong-uh bbang :)

Munching, per usual at the Waterfront in Boston.

  3. Nice!

and @ Anonymous - I disagree. Unless you're talking about Japan, Korean and Chinese portions are really big.

As for me, my aunt is very health-conscious and makes us eat a bunch of vegetables because she sees how healthy they are on TV -_- so I've been eating things that I wouldn't eat at home. Like carrots, mushrooms, beans, mussels.. shudder.

  5. aggh I want to go to Korea!! I've been meaning to plan a trip back but it's been a while... I might go a bit crazy when I go back eating ddukboki.. hehe.

Taisho is the place with the "oh!" sign haha. It's actually officially called "Oh!Taisho" They have two locations pretty much side by side on Saint Marks and there's this weird ghetto jewelry store that divide the two.

  9. I would DEFINITELY put on weight in Korea. Korean food is my absolute favorite!

And in response to your comment on my blog - i just used the tiny cupcake cups to hold them - no special pan needed. But I did use two cupcake cup papers per cupcake, so it would hold the batter without it spilling over. I just put them all on a regular rectangular pan.

  11. Congrats! I have had a hard time keeping weight off since I've been living in Korea. Are there foods you would recommend? I have gained about 10 lbs since I've been here and would hate to come back to the USA even bigger seeing as how I was wanting to lose weight at home. Your suggestions would be much appreciated!!! :)
